After a pre-series of 5 Henschel lorries in 1963, the first series of 205 lorries was procured in 1964. These were allocated to the engineer troops as transport vehicles for the inflatable boat bridge 61. The armoured troops received 89 Henschels as spare parts vehicles. The vehicles for large parts had an open top and tarpaulin. Those for small parts with tarpaulin tops.
A total of 92 Henschels with tarpaulin tops were supplied for spare parts and operating materials for the tanks. The vehicle and trailer shown here, labelled A8, is equipped with tools and spare parts for the 68/88 bridge tank. In service from 1989 to 2011.
