Super-Atlantic

Super-Atlantic convoy with Rotinoff “Super-Atlantic” tow truck, Scheuerle low bed trailer and Centurion tank 55/57
Total weight of the composition approx. 104 tonnes

History in brief

A suitable towing vehicle was sought in connection with the introduction of the Centurion. After an evaluation, Switzerland decided in favour of Rotinoff. The GR7 was exactly what was needed at the time. There were two basic versions: the “Atlantic GR7” with a 6-cylinder engine and the slightly larger “Super-Atlantic GR7” with an 8-cylinder engine.

Depending on the source, Rotinoff sold 10 to 12 Atlantic and Super-Atlantic models in Switzerland in 1958. Only two examples still exist in Switzerland: our own and that of the Swiss Army Museum in Burgdorf. In the Swiss Army, the Rotinoffs were deployed in the repair companies formed in 1962. The heavy convoys were spectacular and always caused a stir.

Their weak points were the low travelling speed and the braking system.

Further details are described in the “Centurion book”.
